Cancer Recovery and Prevention

Cancer.....that word strikes fear, anger, anxiety, and a list of other emotions in the hearts of almost everyone, myself included.  I would venture to say that there is not a person alive that has not been affected in some way by cancer.  One of my goals and passions for my business, "Abundance", is to help us all overcome some of those emotions by looking at it differently.

A year and a half ago my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  It was very small and not considered aggressive but it didn't change the feelings that were nearly overwhelming at the time.  Doctors in Baton Rouge and at MD Anderson recommended surgery or radiation.  Well to make a long story short he, and I repeat he, this was a decision that no one could make for him, decided to do neither.  Does that mean I think everyone should choose that route.  NO, NO, NO!!!!  There is not a person on earth that knows exactly what they would do when faced with making a decision about cancer treatment.  I do think, very strongly as a matter of fact, that the patient should make the decision and it is always a decision.  Please do not be intimidated by doctors and let them convince you that they know what's best for you.  The key to that is to educate yourself before you face such news.  We had been involved with a naturopath for a few years before his diagnosis, if we had not been then what the doctor's had recommended would have been what was done, as quickly as possible.

With all of that said I want to talk about, not treatment, but recovery and prevention.  One thing my hubby and I talked about during his decision making process was this....if a person develops cancer,  and chooses surgery, radiation, chemo, or any other treatment that is focused on the symptom called cancer, and after that treatment there is no lifestyle change, more than likely eventually cancer will return often with a vengeance.  I'm sure many of you know someone that survived cancer then 5 or 10 years later there was cancer somewhere else and there is a very good chance it took a person you love's life.  So bottom line....he knew lifestyle changes were inevitable if he wanted to live to be an old man, why not make the changes before doing conventional treatment, then if there was tumor growth consider surgery.

So what does this mean to you?  For one thing keep in mind we all have cancer cells in our body at some point in time, the issue is whether your body is doing what it was designed to do, fight it off.  If you know someone that is a survivor please, please, please encourage change.  I have decided that I will not charge consulting fees to cancer survivors so make an appointment and let me help.  If you are interested in prevention, congratulations on taking responsibility for your health.  I have a 7 point plan that I am convinced will help you with that endeavor.  I will blog the specifics next week and if you want it sooner send me an email and I will email it to you.  If you would like to sit down and do a consultation based on your personal diet, lifestyle, and needs I would love to see you.

Product focus this week is Ultimate Greenzone.  This product comes in a powder or capsule.  I use it every day in my smoothie or it can be mixed with juice or water.  I happen to like the taste but I realize my taste buds are conditioned to pretty weird stuff.  This is major nutrition, full of spirulina, chai seeds, and so many other super foods.  It would be a wonderful start to a preventative lifestyle.  I am attaching an info sheet on it.  Give me a call if you have any questions.  Oh and I have samples of it if you would like one let me know.

Welcome to "ABUNDANCE"

abundance:  fullness to overflowing

Years ago when I first visited the naturopath that has become a mentor and teacher to me I thought to myself, I would love to do this.  As I pondered that over the years I knew the name of my business would be "Abundance".  That word has come to mean so much to me.  I use it to define my life or at least what I want my life to be.  In John 10:10 Jesus says he came that we may live abundantly so I think it is very important that we strive for that, keeping in mind that abundance is not defined by anything we have, but by the fullness that HE has for us.

With that said......I think a very important key to abundance is health.  Health that we trust God for and health that we take responsibility for.  This may sound a little harsh but I will say it anyway, if someone smokes and gets lung cancer they are very upset but also resigned to the fact that perhaps the choice to smoke led to that outcome.  Why then do others choose to eat processed, chemical laden, trans fat filled food and way too much of it and then act like God has done them a disservice when they discover disease is in their body.  Our health in many cases is our responsibility.  Not to say that I eat perfect, I strive to eat really well 70% of the time, giving myself the freedom to just have fun the rest of the time.  However, my husband, who is fighting a health issue eats perfect 99% of the time.  That's taking responsibility!

If you are new to the idea of natural health, welcome.  I have had so much fun learning all about this and I hope you do too.  First let me give a little idea of my definition of natural health.....It is two fold.
1.  Using food and herbs to treat symptoms of illness and disease.  This of course is done in balance and is NOT the same as ignoring that you are sick!!!!  If anything it is much more work that getting a prescription but well worth it in the long run.
2.  This is most important....Treating the whole body, NOT symptoms.  I would love for you to get this concept but think of it this way, most illness is found in one of your ten body systems or the result of yeast or parasites.  Instead of treating symptoms if we nourish the body system that is affected then the amazing creation that God made will then have the ability to heal itself.

The best way to live holistically, no that is not a new age term, it means:  treating the whole body not illness, is to focus on being whole, spiritually, physically, and mentally.  I will attempt to help you with that through this blog.  If I post something you really like instead of shouting "amen", please share the post.  I will blog hopefully on Mondays about health, including a product feature.  During other times of the week I will blog for fun or on something that inspires me.  Please follow my blog if you are interested, just open a free google account and then you can follow.

Product Feature:
This month the brand I sell, Nature's Sunshine is offering a special on a "Get Healthy Pack".  If you have been saying "I need to get healthy so bad" but keep putting it off this is the perfect thing for you.  It is Clean Start, a two week cleanse, Super Trio, a months supply of Super Omega 3{which is fish oil}, Super Supplemental{a multi vitamin}, and Super Orac {antioxidant, helping to combat free radicals, aka cancer causers} all in convenient cellophane packs that you take twice a day.  Also a bottle of Probiotic Eleven which is a fantastic probiotic, which replaces good bacteria that is easily lost.  These are great products to promote general health.  Regular cost is $175, this month it is $115 and I can have it shipped directly to you then you can call or email with any questions or concerns you have.

I pray that this week you will focus on abundance, not my business, but what Jesus was talking about.  That you will find it in the smallest things.  Some of the places I discover it are....rocking my baby, okay sure he's 8 but he still lets me sometimes, the bright green clover that is filling my front yard, the birds scurrying around building the nests they will soon fill with eggs.  Springtime is the perfect time to start focusing on God's abundance, I pray you will find new growth in your own life as you notice all of the new growth in nature over the next month or two.

Blessings,
Nicole

Overcoming the Flu Naturally

I very big part of me would like to rant right now.... about what?  The flu vaccination joke.  But I won't.  Instead I would like to give some tips on treating the flu naturally, since so many people are getting it, vaccinated or not.

#1 - Take care of yourself.  Of coarse you should always do this but during flu season you should be extra diligent in this area.  Staying hydrated, limiting bad foods, getting exercise, lots of prayer, little alcohol and other dehydrating beverages.

#2 - Tune in to your body.  The minute you start feeling a little bad immediately begin to work.  Don't wait until you are miserable.

#3 - Focus on food.  If you are sick I know you want comfort food but now is the time to fill your body with nutrients.  To be honest you would be better off not eating and simply juicing than eating food that your body has to put major focus on digesting.  Homemade veggie soup would be great, or even chicken noodle.

#4 - Baths, baths, and more baths.  Remember if you are running fever your body is fighting to overcome this.  I'm not talking about if you have a temp of 104 degrees, but if you start running a low grade and you really start working on your health you are likely to overcome before you get to that high of fever.  I recommend a bath with lots of Epsom salt, baking soda, and apple cider vinegar.  Add some eucalyptus essential oil to it.  Then sit, for as long as you can possibly stand it.  Try to do this a couple of times a day.

#5 - Supplements.  Of coarse I sell supplements but whether you get them from me or elsewhere it doesn't matter except for the fact that if you are going to bother taking them they may as well be high quality and actually work.  I recommend Zinc Cold and Flu, Silver Shield, Probiotics, and Elderberry D3fense.  If you are not getting in enough nutrients through your food you need Ultimate Greenzone also.

#6 - Water.  Drink at least a half gallon a day.  This is crucial.

#7 - Rest.  From the minute your intuition tells you your a little ran down.  Take the hint, rest.  I know we live in a super fast paced world but that doesn't mean we have to keep up.  Let this be a time that you focus on your health, well being, and what God created you for.  Sickness is opposite of ABUNDANCE!  That's what my goal for you is.

If you are simply trying to prevent and would like a supplement for that I recommend the Elderberry D3fense.  Fantastic product I like to call a "flu shot in a bottle".

I pray this helps you.  If you do not live in my area but are interested in ordering the supplements recommended please give me a call.

Blessings,
Nicole

Orange Glazed Salmon

Yesterday was Valentine's day and I must say I am pretty blessed.  To start the day my cousin, whom I don't see too often, came for a visit, always wonderful.  Then a friend came to pick up a little Silver Shield from my business, another wonderful visit.  Then I made a mad dash to come up with gifts for all the loves of my life.  The hubby got a wheatgrass juicer, smile, pretty excited myself about that one.  Now I need to get everything ordered to start growing it.  The boys just got little things that they loved.  My sweetie got me a pair of Ugg boots, wow, that was definitely something I would never have splurged on myself so a big thank you and wet kiss to him.  So my day was pretty wonderful.

Since I haven't posted any recipes lately I thought I would share my Valentine's meal with you.  It was pretty delish and so simple that I didn't even plan ahead, totally made from on hand ingredients.  Oh I included a salad that was served first but it was nothing special just a basic Caesar, their favorite.

Here was the menu..... Orange Glazed Salmon
                                           Roasted Garlic Polenta
                                           Sauteed Spinach

Orange Glazed Salmon
Salmon {I am particular here, only wild caught but I'm sure farmed will taste as good but don't be fooled it  is not as good for you!}
Salt
Garlic Salt
Orange Marmalade
Sometimes less really is more and that's the case here.  Just lightly sprinkle fish with salt and garlic salt.  Place under the broiler for approximately 8 minutes.  Remove from oven and brush with a little orange marmalade.  Place back under broiler until it is done, depending on the size of your fish probably 3 minutes or so.  Mine were around 6 oz.

Roasted Garlic Polenta
1 cup polenta AKA yellow corn grits
3 cups water
Salt to taste
1 T. roasted garlic {this is a cheater item, the hubby bought some in a jar a week ago and I'm trying to use it up, I was thankful my cook time would have gone to MUCH longer without it}
1 cup whole milk
2 T. butter
Bring water to a boil and add approximately 1 teaspoon of salt.  Add polenta/grits and garlic, stir well.  When it begins to thicken add milk and butter.  Let it simmer 15 minutes or until grits are tender and they are pretty thick.  Turn heat off, they will thicken more as they cool a bit.

Sauteed Spinach
This is the perfect way to use up a lot of spinach.
1 t. butter {just a hint:  anytime I say butter I am using a product called Organic Earth Balance, so feel free to use a substitute but never, never, never margarine, YUCK!}
1 clove garlic
1 lb. baby spinach
Salt to taste
Saute garlic in butter, add spinach and a little salt.  Saute until spinach is wilted.  This doesn't make very much so if you are feeding more than 2 or 3 double it at least.

This meal was created in less than 30 minutes and really was wonderful.  The hubby and 13 year old loved it.

Beeswax
Cocoa Butter
Jojoba Oil

Abundance is OPEN FOR BUSINESS

For the last two months I have been really questioning if I should venture into another business.  My plan was to open December 1st and I'm just now getting it done.  Every week something has come up to cause a distraction, thus making me question myself.  Well Friday I received a visit from my natural health mentor and teacher, my Nature's Sunshine sponsor, and another good friend.  They are three women that I love and respect.  After inspecting my space and looking at what I will be offering they did nothing but encourage me, they also spent a little $ on my bath products.  When they left I had a beautiful revelation.....when I am trying to open a business that is genuinely focused on helping people, of coarse the enemy of my soul, the same one in my biz's motto scripture, John 10:10, that wants to steal, kill, and destroy, is not going to sit back and not use everything in his power to distract me.  So I AM OPEN!!!!!!  I am not perfect, nor is my business.  I do not know it all, but I can sure research answers for you.  I am not a size 4, refer to my last blog post.  But I am ready, willing, and able to encourage others to reach the goals they have for their health and life.  Please come by or call me with any questions you have that I may be able to help you with.  Blessings!
